Empretec Women In Business Awards 2018
Thursday 25th October 2018, 18.00 – 20.00 CEST, General Assembly, UN, Palais des Nations The Empretec Women In Business Awards take place on Thursday 25th October, 6-8pm, during the World Investment Forum (WIF) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. These awards, hosted in the General Assembly, are celebrating the crucial role that women entrepreneurs play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in their communities. Here are 3 easy ways to get involved using Sustainable Development Goals which all play a significant role in women’s empowerment globally: Ideas To Change The World Posters: Get your children and youth to draw and describe their innovative solutions to achieve either of these Sustainable Development Goals #4 – Education and #13 – Climate Action. We’ll provide an Ideas Canvas template and instructions to generate the incredible ideas, using Flow In Action’s learn to move mountains® approach. The posters will be used to create a display inside and outside of the General Assembly at the UN, Palais des Nations. 1-minute Films: Get your children and youth to create a 1-min film of their creative interpretation of women’s empowerment through entrepreneurship using spoken word poetry. The films will be shown during the event itself and used as a call to action to policymakers and changemakers following the event. 3-min in-person: There are 2 places for a 3-minute in-person performance by individuals or a group on stage in the General Assembly through singing, dancing, musical performance, drama. The event is organised by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade & Development) together with UN Women and the Commonwealth Business Women Forum. The Empretec Women in Business Award are granted to women-owned businesses that have benefited from the business development services of the Empretec programme – a pioneering UNCTAD programme for the promotion of entrepreneurship that operates in 40 developing countries. Thursday 15th November 2018, 15.00 – 19.00 CEST, General Assembly, UN, Palais des Nations The Start-Ups for SDGs is a pitching event organised by UNCTAD, taking place during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Ten candidates from developing countries pitch their enterprises to an Expert Panel of impact investors for feedback, guidance and the opportunity to secure funding. Here are 3 easy ways to get involved: 1.Ideas To Change The World Posters: Get your children and youth to draw and describe their innovative enterprise solutions to achieve Sustainable Development Goal #13 – Climate Action. We’ll provide an Ideas Canvas template and instructions to generate the incredible ideas for enterprises, using Flow In Action’s learn to move mountains® approach. The posters will be used to create a display inside and outside of the event at the UN, Palais des Nations. 2.Flash Mob for SDGs: Come along with your children and youth and take part in the youth-led Flash Mob for SDGs. Whilst the Expert Panel are evaluating the pitches, the young people in the audience will lead the audience in a ‘flash mob’ singing/dancing activity with the theme of celebrating positive action. 3.Be Part of the Audience: Inspire children and youth by coming along to the event, to hear and see young entrepreneur’s sharing their ideas. Use it as a platform for encouraging them as innovators and entrepreneurs as they view the ‘entrepreneur’s journey’ inside the United Nations. #kidpreneur #socinn #positiveeducation #creativity #imagination #ideas #flowinaction The learn to move mountains workshops empower kids to be strengths-based problem-solvers.
One of the things I do, is to get kids to choose a minimum of 3 strengths that they see in themselves from the At My Best strengths cards pack. It is really special to have them recognise their strengths and know that they are using them to imagine amazing solutions. I love it when they choose lots of cards! It's like watching flowers bloom! #empower #positiveeducation #characterstrengths #creativity #imagination #innovation Sign up for Flow In Action Key Influencers Workshop at Soft-Space Geneva on 13th June.

What are you planning to do with your youth to inspire them to #beatplasticpollution today? First, give them hope by taking this global campaign and exploring how to make it local. Knowing how you can take action in small, practical ways in your own community is always a positive starting point. For example, celebrate the bring-your-own reusable bottles, cups, plates and cutlery! Celebrating what is being done right is a key part in making sure it keeps happening, connect it to their lives. In the trailer for Anote’s Ark, you see Anote, the President of the Kiribati Islands at the time in Paris for the Climate Accord. He is speaking to the conference. You can see that everyone has in front of them a single-use plastic water bottle! Argh! The irony! Start a #bringyourown campaign for local events, as well as the big events that you see on the TV. Second, build children and young people’s key thinking skills by playing with ideas for products, which support taking action. This is enabling them to become natural problem-solvers and to think with an entrepreneurial mindset – exactly the skills needed in today’s world for ‘career-security.[1]’ For example, make cloth bags for fruit and veg from old clothes and kit. Make it, sell it, reinvest the income into social change projects in your community. Use these to replace single-use plastic bags in the supermarket. Start today. Watch the video. Make it a project!
