If you work with CAS students you know the challenges of getting them to reflect rather than just write down some bullet points about what they did.

This webinar explores strategies for reflecting, giving you practical tools and tips on how to get students engaged.

I'll be sharing insights from my experience in business development, strategy and leadership settings to put reflecting in context as a life-skill, as well as why particular tools are valued in these settings.

Break down language barriers with Dictionary Day

9/25/2016

The 16th October sees the celebration of Noah Webster's birthday, the lexicographer who started Webster's Dictionary.

A dictionary is "a book or electronic resource that lists the words of a language (typically in alphabetical order) and gives their meaning, or gives the equivalent words in a different language, often also providing information about pronunciation, origin, and usage." Source: Dictionary.com

Dictionaries help to break down language barriers by giving us correct meanings of words.

When you're learning a new language, a dictionary plays a vital role in giving you the information you need to express yourself.

Your voice counts. To not have the words to express yourself and your ideas means that your voice is not heard.

As a global citizenship, it is your ability to speak which makes positive change happen.

Make a date and celebrate Dictionary Day in your community to improve language, literacy and communication.

Here' some ideas to get you started:

1. Set up a spelling bee

2. Play classroom word bingo and look up the meanings of chosen words

3. Have 'find a word' dictionary speed competitions

Research it. Share it. Get people involved.

Smiling changes your focus and physiology. Physiology accounts for 55% of how you create meaning and emotion. When you choose to smile, you can change your mood within a few moments to focus on something more positive, reduce stress and increase well-being.

Here's how you can create more mindfulness and well-being in your community on World Smile Day!

1. Check out the Action for Happiness website

2. Research their resources to understand how to be happier

3. Choose some resources to share within your school community

4. Set up a Google Classroom

5. Ask students and teachers to use their smart phones to take smile selfies and upload them to the Google Classroom

6. Create a free Powtoon account or other video software and make a slideshow montage of your 'Smile Community'

There are hundreds of ways to use your own creativity to come up with activities!

What are yours? Post your activities on the Flow In Action Facebook page and tag with @flowinaction #flowinaction

FREE Creative Mind-Map for Students - 'Hack' Celebration Days to promote Global Citizenship

9/24/2016

Each week there are global celebration days which promote international mindedness and global citizenship.

It's a quick 'service learning' win for your school community if students are empowered to start 'hacking' celebration days with new ideas for taking action and creating awareness.

To help make that change happen, I've created a mind-map which sets out clearly how to research celebration days and come up with ideas for taking action.

Give this valuable visual guide to your students and unleash their creativity.

Empower them to make change happen as they learn the life-skills of finding answers, coming up with solutions and sharing their voices.

Ideas, ideas, ideas

"Ideas are the currency of the 21st Century." Carmine Gallo

Before the ideas comes the empathy with a problem or challenge. So, what do you care about? What moves you to imagine something better to solve a problem?

No matter what age you are, it's not about knowing all of the answers. Life is about knowing how to find them, bringing your unique perspective and creativity to the table...and expressing it.

Take 5 minutes to day-dream today. In that time, wonder about something. Give yourself permission to dream big.
