Who Am I as Place?

A practice of rediscovery,
for reorienting how we imagine and create change

This is a guided reflective practice that supports a shift from transactional, solution-driven thinking towards rebuilding a relationship with ourselves as changemakers - grounded in landscape, cultural heritage, language and languages, and lived experiences - so that we recognise who we are as place.

This is how we rediscover belonging - to ourselves, others and Nature.

This practice will help you to change where you are acting from when you imagine change,
to bring new possibilities.
About this practice
Many people working in sustainability, regeneration, education, and systems change sense a gap between their values and how they are asked to work.

This practice supports you to explore that tension by rediscovering who you are as place.

Rather than beginning with tools, frameworks, or solutions, we begin with the question:
Where are you acting from when you imagine and lead change?
What this
practice supports
This session supports you to:
  • notice how place, identity, and experience shape your thinking.
  • recognise dominant narratives influencing your work.
  • reconnect imagination with belonging and relationship.
  • develop a clearer sense of orientation in your work.
  • create a personal “Map of Belonging” as a reflective artefact.

How this
practice works
This is a guided, small-group reflective occasion that includes:
  • facilitated prompts and reflection.
  • individual and shared sensemaking.
  • exploratory mapping of belonging.
  • discussion on narratives shaping what we think is possible.
It is not a teaching session or a technical workshop.
What you'll
leave with
You will leave with:
  • a clearer sense of where your misalignment is coming from.
  • your own evolving Map of Belonging.
  • language for describing your orientation in change work.
  • a grounded sense of how to act from a more relational place.

Who this
practice is for

This practice is for people working in:
  • sustainability and regeneration.
  • community engagement.
  • futures, foresight, and systems change.
  • education.
  • social innovation and place-based work.

It is especially relevant if you:
  • feel a growing misalignment in your work.
  • experience your work as overly transactional or disconnected.
  • want to slow down and re-orient before taking action.
  • are exploring more relational and regenerative ways of working.
What this
practice is not
This is not:
  • a strategy session
  • a coaching programme
  • a toolkit or methodology training
  • a solution-focused workshop

It is a practice of re-orientation.
Contribution
This practice is offered with 3 contribution pathways:
  • Community - £37 – for those with limited financial capacity.
  • Professional - £77 – for those able to make a full contribution.
  • Gardener - £137 – for those able in abundance who also want to pay-it-forward with a community space.
